Mission
Statement of Purpose and Mission for the ECNS
The EEG and Clinical Neuroscience Society (ECNS) is an international scientific and educational organization committed to advancing knowledge of the latest scientific advances in all fields of electrophysiology. These advancements aim to enhance the understanding, treatment, and prevention of neurobehavioral disorders.
The term “neurobehavioral disorders” is defined here in the widest, most inclusive terms. This category will include but is not limited to, head injury, epilepsy, pain syndromes, movement disorders, cerebrovascular disorders, metabolic and degenerative disorders, thought disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, personality and substance dependence disorders.
- Electroencephalography (EEG), both qualitative and quantitative
- Polysomnography (PSG)
- Evoked responses
- Magnetoencephalography (MEG)
- Eye movement studies
Additionally, interventional techniques such electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), deep brain stimulation (DBS), and EEG neurofeedback.
The ECNS is dedicated to upholding the highest standards of scientific and ethical practice in research, education, and clinical applications.
Recognizing that electrophysiology does not exist in isolation, the ECNS prioritizes the integration of electrophysiological methodologies with related disciplines. These include basic sciences essential to understanding clinical findings, as well as fields such as neuroimaging, neuropsychology, neuropharmacology, genetics, and neuroepidemiology.
Finally, it will be one of the missions of the ECNS to set up standards of practice and training in “Neurobehavioral Electrophysiology.”
